“An apple a day keeps the Doctor away” or so the old saying goes. Whilst eating a healthy diet of whole grains, fruit and vegetables is important, so too is exercising. We all know it is important to exercise everyday but many of us have trouble fitting it in to our busy lives.
The key to success is something is better than nothing. Aim to build in as little as 10 minutes per day of simple body weight exercises.
Pick 10 different exercises that are a blend of cardiovascular, strength and core based exercises and aim to do each exercise for up to 1 minute each. Total 10 minutes. At first 1 minute may be more than you can do so reduce this to 30, 40 or 50 seconds with 30, 20 or 10 seconds rest to make up the 1 minute. If you don’t have a way of timing you can simply choose to complete 10 repetitions of each exercise.
You may choose to do them all at once, or you can break them up throughout the day. You can even do them whilst watching TV, see how many you can fit into each Add beak whilst watching your favourite show!
The idea is to make this task as simple as possible so that it is not daunting.
You will be surprised how good you feel for doing your 10 a day, and over time how much benefit you get from these simple 10 a day exercises.
It’s all about building healthy habits for a lifetime. Two things are worth remembering: It takes 21 days to build a habit and “from little things, big things grow"!
