You've put in a lot of effort to make positive health and fitness changes in your daily life. You feel you've established a solid routine and are on track to achieve your health and fitness goals. However, with an upcoming holiday, you're worried that all your hard work might be undone. How can you maintain your fitness routine while away? Will the muscle you've built disappear? What will you eat, and what if you gain extra weight? These are all very normal and understandable concerns. But don't worry—by making a few smart choices throughout your holiday, you won't lose progress; you might even make some gains!

Be Smart. Keep it Simple. Keep it Real.

Small and light weight to pack, versatile equipment and your own body weight will take you far!

Tip #1 - Pack with good intentions.

  • Think: Skipping rope, resistance bands, an exercise towel or yoga mat.

  • Running shoes - if your packing light wear them on the aeroplane! Don't forget comfy exercise gear.

  • Healthy snacks for the aeroplane will keep temptation at bay.

  • Don't forget a Water Bottle - keeping up your water intake is vital and can be used as a dumbbell replacement!

Tip #2 - Don't be afraid to mix it up.

Your holiday activities don't need to mirror what you do at home; in fact, a change can often be beneficial!

Cheaper than a car hire or a taxi, bike hire is a great way to see a new place and gain the physical benefits.

  • Keep your workouts short and fun.

  • Divide your workouts into 10-minute sessions focusing on Cardio, Upper body, Lower body, and Core exercises to keep them brief and manageable. Integrate them into your travel schedule at convenient times during your stay

  • Walking, running, or cycling is a great way to take in a new place.

Tip #3 - Make the most of new opportunities.

Have you ever wanted to learn surfing? Or perhaps you'd like to try kayaking, take out a stand-up paddleboard, or experience white water rafting? Look around you. Go online and discover activities that are not only enjoyable but also offer physical benefits.

Tip #4 - Eat well!

Eating well on holidays can be daunting. Drop the stress but don't drop the healthy habits.

  • Try new foods, after all, variety is the spice of life!

  • Eat the rainbow. Different coloured fruits and vegetable contain different nutrients.

  • Locate a nearby grocery store and purchase genuine, straightforward, healthy foods for snacking, which will help you save both time and money.

  • Prepare a picnic, take a walk to find a nice spot, and enjoy some simple, healthy foods in the fresh air!

Tip #5 - Add some time for you!

"Yoga is not a work-out; it is a work-in. And this is the point of spiritual practice, to make us teachable, to open up our hearts, and focus our awareness so that we can know what we already know and be who we already are." (Rolf Gates).

Find a quite spot, roll out your mat and try a spot of yoga.

  • Moving and stretching is a really important part of physical health.

  • Yoga will improve your range of movement, strength and flexibility.

  • Plus it is great for your mental health too.

Keep in mind that holidays are a reward, yet they can also be enriching!

By making wise decisions, you'll return home prepared for the next challenge, ready to set new goals and achieve new personal records!
